Meeting of Board of Directors of National Trust for Population Welfare (NATPOW)

Federal Minister for Population Welfare Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that ministry of Population Welfare is working on the draft of the upcoming population policy and after taking the consensus of religious scholars the draft of the policy will be presented in cabinet till December.

 


The Federal Minister while talking to media men after attending the meeting of Board of Directors of National Trust for Population Welfare here in here today, said that the betterment and uplifting of the poor masses of the country is our top priority and for this we are initiating necessary steps for the upgraded the lifestyle of common man.

Dr. Firdous said that we are organizing provincial meeting and conferences with the religious scholars for taking their consensus and after this the ministry of population will be finalized the draft of the policy.

The minister also formally announce to reactivate the “National Trust for Population Welfare” (NATPOW) and said that this trust was formulated ten years before by our Shaheed leader Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto with the vision to approach the poor masses at grass root level. She wished that members of new board of directors will perform their role actively and will be resolved numerous pending issues to make this organization vital and vibrant.

She said that the present government wants to strengthen the public private partnership and the activation of this trust and show keen interest to solve the problems of rural masses. In this regard with the help of community based institutions fulfill the communication gape.

The minister said that the Government has already approved the grant of Rs 25 million for this trust from which 10million Rs has been released to the NATPOW. The incumbent Government is likely to approve 436 million PSDP Funds for five year plan period (2009-14) for NATPOW, as since year 2000 no funding has been made to this trust, she added. She said that NATPOW will also support the NGO’s working in the field of Reproductive health/ Family Planning by floating request for proposals in the media and media can vital role for the masses awareness in this regard.

It was decided in the meeting that when the funding will be started donors and NGO’s trust will be developed to help the population policy, which is also the vision of Mohtarma Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

While addressing the Chairperson of the NATPOW Senator Suraya Ameer ud Din said that this trust is a great example of the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and we will try together to make it more effective and beneficial for the masses especially in the remote areas.

Earlier the meeting was attended by the Chief Executive of NATPOW Mr. Iftikhar Durrain and other high officials of the Ministry of Population Welfare and NATPOW.
